The leading provider of Cellular telephone services in the UK, Cellnet employ some 5,000 staff over twelve sites. The distribution of staff across sites and the large number of mobile staff make maintaining communications expensive and time consuming. Under the old system large amounts of text information was held on numerous shared drives. The implementation of an intranet initially enabled the distribution of company wide data viz:
- quality documentation
- staff lists, positions and extensions
- GPS
- technical literature from suppliers
The server platform was NT and the web server website from O'Reilly. The development of the system and the creation of the content was managed by members of Objective Internet.
